Dubautia ciliolata
A Hawaii-endemic, Asteraceae shrub up to 1.8 m tall with rigid, variably textured stems, thick glabrous to hispid leaves, and heads of yellow florets in elongated panicles in open, dry habitats from shrubland to subalpine lava at 900–3,200 m, a member of the Hawaiian silversword alliance that readily hybridizes with other 13-paired species to form intermediate pale lemon-yellow flowers (2n = 27), and with two subspecies and multiple infraspecific varieties, first described in the 19th century with lectotypes and holotypes designated.

Summary
Lava dubautia is an endemic Hawaii Island shrub, erect and densely branched, reaching up to 1.8 m tall with rigid stems that can be hispid to canescent, glutinous or sooty. Leaves are thick, stiff, lanceolate to narrowly elliptic (0.4–3 cm long, 0.1–0.65 cm wide) and arranged near the inflorescence in alternate, opposite, or ternate patterns. Inflorescences are cymosely arranged in elongate panicles (1.5–12 cm long, 1.5–6 cm wide) bearing heads with 4–18 yellow florets 4–6 mm long; fruit is a dry achene (3.5–4.5 mm) with a pappus of 14–21 narrowly linear bristles 4.5–6.5 mm. Habitat open, dry shrubland to Metrosideros and subalpine forests, typically on lava, at 900–3,200 m.
Cultivation and use considerations: It grows in open, dry lava habitats at elevations of 900–3,200 m as a shrub up to 1.8 m with rigid stems.
