Agalinis fasciculata
An annual hemiparasitic wildflower in the Orobanchaceae with whorled leaf fascicles on a fuzzy stem and tubular pink-to-purple flowers that attract a variety of pollinators in dry to mesic prairies and woodland edges.
Common Names
Beach False Foxglove, False Foxglove
Summary
Beach false foxglove is a native, annual hemiparasitic herb of dry, sandy habitats in the United States and adjacent islands, with stems 0.6–1.3 m tall and opposite, linear leaves 1–3 mm wide that often form fascicles at lower nodes; it features upper-stem racemes of pink flowers with interior pink spots and two yellow stripes, and a capsule is produced as fruit.
Its distribution spans Maryland to Florida and Texas, extending inland to Missouri; in cultivation it prefers sunny, dry sandy soils and can be difficult to grow without a suitable host. Nursery availability is limited; it functions as a nectar source for native pollinators and as a larval host for the Common Buckeye butterfly.
