Anemone virginiana, commonly tall thimbleweed or Virginia anemone, is a North American native herbaceous perennial in the Ranunculaceae, it grows about 1–4 ft tall with a spreading or clumping habit and palmately divided leaves, the inflorescence bears white to greenish-white flowers on slender stems, each with five sepals and numerous stamens (petals absent), followed by cylindrical, woolly seed heads that persist into winter, it thrives in full sun to partial shade on well-drained soils dry to moderately moist, and is hardy in USDA zones 2–8, deer- and rabbit-resistant and pollinator-friendly, it spreads by rhizomes but is not highly aggressive, propagation occurs by seed and division, sap can irritate skin, so gloves are advisable when pruning, suitable for woodland, prairie, and naturalized plantings, and often used for adding seasonal structure and wildlife value
