Summary

Grass-leaved Goldenrod is a North American perennial with an upright, often clumping habit, typically 2–4 ft tall, spreading by rhizomes to form colonies. It features narrow, grass-like leaves with three conspicuous veins on larger leaves and dense, flat-topped clusters of 20–35 yellow flower heads that bloom from July to September. In cultivation, it prefers full sun and moist to wet soils but tolerates dry sites and poor soils; spreads aggressively by rhizomes and can be invasive in some settings, including parts of Europe; propagation is by seed or division; hardy in zones 3–9; used for erosion control and wildlife-friendly planting, attracting pollinators and providing seeds for birds such as American goldfinch and swamp sparrow.
