Summary
Seaside Goldenrod, a native coastal perennial, has upright stems up to 2–6 ft tall with dense panicles of bright yellow flowers and thick, waxy oblong to lance-shaped leaves; basal leaves are present. It tolerates salt spray, drought, and sandy, well-drained soils and spreads by rhizomes to form large colonies.
In cultivation, plant in full sun on sandy, well-drained soils; water needs are low once established; hardy in zones 4–9. Space about 3 feet apart to allow filling in, and propagate by seed or division. It supports pollinators by providing nectar for bees and butterflies, contributes to wildlife habitat, and is suitable for coastal plantings, dune stabilization, and erosion control; it is deer resistant and generally pest- and disease-free.
