Its habitat includes forests, woodlands, and grassy balds; it is common overall, though uncommon in the Georgia Coastal Plain. In some references, Solidago vaseyi is synonymous with Solidago arguta var. caroliniana.
Flowering occurs in summer to fall, with yellow ray and disc florets and an inferior ovary. Flower heads are arranged in paniculiform inflorescences with heads borne secund on the branches. The fruit is an achene. Sources corroborate these characteristics and reference its close relation to Solidago arguta in various floras.
