Summary
Heuchera micrantha, commonly called crevice alumroot, is a native perennial herb in the Saxifragaceae family from western North America. It forms evergreen rosettes and clump-forming mounds with basal, lobed leaves that can be green, reddish, or purple-green and may be hairy. It grows on moist, rocky banks and cliffs, producing slender flower stalks up to about 2–3 feet tall above foliage and panicles of small white to pinkish flowers from spring into early summer; the plant typically reaches about 12–24 inches tall and wide.
For cultivation, it prefers light to medium, well-drained soils (chalk, loam or sand) with a neutral pH and can grow in East-, South- or West-facing positions, including exposed or sheltered locations; in sun, soil moisture should be maintained, though more irrigation is needed. It is hardy to zone 4 and drought-tolerant once established; it attracts native bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds and is deer resistant. In landscapes, it suits beds, borders, rock and woodland gardens, edgers, groundcovers, or containers; propagation is by seed or division in autumn, with division every 3–4 years to maintain vigor.
