Hypericum frondosum, commonly known as Golden St. John’s Wort, is native to the Southeastern United States, it is a small, dense shrub about 3–4 feet tall and wide with blue-green leaves that are often glaucous beneath, bearing large golden-yellow flowers in June through July with numerous stamens forming a dense brush, flowers on new wood, and reddish-brown exfoliating bark with reddish-brown seed capsules in fall for year round interest, preferring full sun to partial shade, it grows in average, well-drained soils and tolerates a range of moisture conditions from moist to drought-tolerant once established, hardy in USDA zones 5–8, it is deer and rabbit resistant and attracts bees and other pollinators, common landscape uses include hedges, foundations, and mass plantings such as the Sunburst cultivar, flowering on new wood allows pruning in spring to refresh growth without reducing bloom
